Press Release: Beloved Jazz Club Announces Its Final Curtain Call

SWING 46 Jazz & Supper Club

A Fond Farewell to a Community Staple and Musical Haven

New York, New York – 10/02/2025 — With deepest gratitude and heavy hearts, the owner and management of Swing 46 Jazz & Supper Club announces that we will be closing our doors for the final time January 1st, 2026. After nearly three decades of bringing world-class jazz, unforgettable performances, and a sense of community to music lovers in New York, New York and beyond, this difficult decision comes following thorough consideration of current circumstances and future possibilities.

Celebrating a Musical Legacy

Since proudly opening it’s doors in 1997, Swing 46 Jazz & Supper Club has been a beacon for jazz aficionados, emerging artists, and legendary performers alike. Our stage has witnessed countless magical moments—and the joyful camaraderie that only live music can inspire. We are immensely proud to have played a part in nurturing the local jazz scene and providing a welcoming home for artists and audiences.

Swing 46 Jazz & Supper Club has been dedicated to preserving the tradition of the 1940s vintage supper club within modern times, while upholding the legacy established by its predecessors, the renowned jazz venues The Silver Lining and The Red Blazer Too.

Club owner, John Akhtar has been dedicated to keeping the mission of Swing 46 alive.

“It has been a labor of love,” said Akhtar. “I’ve done it all because I love Jazz, Blues, Big Band music, the bands, the dancers, the patrons and the people who work here… We’ve tried to keep the doors open rain or shine—pandemic and economic recession—for the majority of three decades. It’s worth celebrating everything that we’ve gone through, and to honor the amazing community we’ve built over the years!”

Over the years, Jazz fans from around the world have patronized our nostalgic and unique club. Legendary swing dancers such as Frankie Manning, Norma Miller, and the unforgettable Dawn Hampton graced our dance floor for years, and revered tap dancers including Buster Brown, Gregory Hines, Maurice Hines, and Savion Glover hosted the longest running weekly “Tap Jam” at this beloved venue.

In addition to providing a home to Jazz & Swing bands, dance teachers & performers, Swing 46 Jazz & Supper Club has become a favorite tourist destination and a sanctuary for jazz fans, musicians, and social dancers from around the world.

We have witnessed countless magical performances. Through the years, SWING46 has hosted a pantheon of celebrity guests and legendary artists and watched the local jazz scene flourish within our walls.

The memories, the music, the celebrations, the friendships created here will remain in our hearts forever.

Thank You to Our Community

We extend our sincere appreciation to every patron, performer, and staff member who has supported the club throughout its journey. Your passion and loyalty have been the lifeblood of Swing 46 Jazz & Supper Club, turning it into more than just a venue—it became a family and a cherished gathering place. We are grateful for the memories shared, friendships forged, and music made within these walls.
