SUMMARY:Marty Elkins | THU
DESCRIPTION:Early Set | Jazz Quartet\n5:30 – 8:30: Marty Elkins \nMarty Elkins is the most effective purveyor of 1920s and ’30s swing vocals recording today…. As long as the American Songbook exists\, Marty Elkins need be there to interpret it for us. Marty Elkins hails from Jersey City\, New Jersey. Marty moved to New York in the early eighties and began playing clubs like Jimmy Ryan’s and Eddie Condon’s\, singing with Max Kaminsky’s band\, Spanky Davis’s “Jimmy Ryan All Stars” at the Cat Club\, Cousin’s in Brooklyn with Tardo Hammer & Lee Hudson\, and even the Savoy Lounge in midtown Manhattan (with a young organ trio – Adam Scone\, Coleman Mellett and Craig Wuepper). Later on she joined the vocal group\, “The Sweethots” who performed with the Stan Rubin Band and the Cab Calloway Orchestra\, under the direction of Christopher Calloway Brooks…. Today she sings at the renowned jazz spots Smalls\, Mezzrow and the 55 Bar…. \nNagel-Heyer records got her international attention\, with “Fuse Blues\,” the critically acclaimed debut album and “In Another Life” – a duo effort with Dave McKenna. \n“Marty Elkins runs her own voodoo down.  It will remind you of no one else out there.  Her voice is always doing those things a jazz singer will do.  Marty Elkins is a jazz singer…”\nStanley Crouch\, liner notes on Fuse Blues (Nagel-Heyer Records) \nMarty has now established her own record label\, Elktone – which is distributed by Jazzheads. Her most-recent titles are “Walkin’ By The River\,” “Fat Daddy” (which was on two best of 2018 lists with Cadence Magazine and Syncopated Times)\, and her newest project “‘Tis Autumn.”\nfull bio at https://www.martyelkins.com/bio

SUMMARY:Stan Rubin featuring Joe Politi & Lynn McCune | THU
DESCRIPTION:Late Set | Jazz Band\n9:00 – 12:00: Stan Rubin Orchestra feat. Joe Politi and Lynn McCune \nStan Rubin Orchestra feat. Joe Politi “Swing is a form of music that grew out of jazz\,” explained Stan Rubin. “The beauty of big-band swing is that it combines musical structure with improvisation\, the hallmark of jazz\, but swing doesn’t abandon the melody like some modern jazz.” As ruler of his particular kingdom\, Stan built over many decades in a library of swing\, a collection of the arrangements played by the likes of Goodman\, the Dorsey Brothers\, Artie Shaw\, Duke Ellington\, Count Basie\, Harry James and a half-dozen others who swung America from the 1930s into the early 50s. And he continues to keep this brand of music on the menu\, through live appearances by the Stan Rubin Orchestra.
